We want to wish you and your family a very happy Holiday and very successful 2012.

This last year for us has been very successful. We released our lastest CD "J.F.L." to rave reviews. We had a very successful 18 date tour with guitar legend Pat Travers that took us through California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Played with Michael Schenker, Vicious Rumors and more. Played some great venues in SF, Oregon, Chico etc and met a lot of really cool people and made a lot more new fans. It's been great!

We are really excited to announce our next show will be with guitar legends Uli Jon Roth and Tony MacAlpine at The Pound in Oakland, CA on February 11th. Tickets can be purchased at http://holdmyticket.com/event/33830. Also on the bill is Fla Metal.

"I'm not a fan of the multi genre-tag system rock music has created for itself, so when the second album from guitar driven instrumental act LoNero landed in my home with the proud boast that this band had created "Guitarcore", I have to say that I gave a little inward sigh. So what is guitarcore I hear you ask? Well judging from JFL, the simple(ish) answer to that would appear to be everything from guitar based rock that ranges across melodic rock to punk, as well as metal ranging from the funk variety to the power category. Maybe it is easier to think of Joe Satriani with a slightly wider remit and you won't be far off.

Now all of that immediately describes why I think that with JFL LoNero may have created themselves a double edged sword, because I know that people who will genuinely get a huge amount out of this sharp, well crafted, song based album will have already been put off by the thought of another instrumental based guitar led album. Reviewers can say until they are blue in the face that what LoNero do is different from most shredders or as their work is known "guitar wank" albums, but there's no doubt that it won't be enough to convince those who believe that they need lyrics and vocals to really make an album complete, and that is a real shame. JFL isn't an excuse for musicians to show off and while there can be no doubt that Bill Lonero is a six-string sage, he uses his talent to tell simple musical stories embellished with a little sparkles of colour and simply wonderful tone. Ably backed by Mike McKaigg on bass, Brandon Hayes on rhythm/harmony guitar and Marco Bicca on drums, what LoNero the band do is rock and rock hard!

What is also impressive about JFL is that not only does it not matter one iota that LoNero don't have a singer, but that they manage to do so while creating a wonderfully eclectic, yet cohesive album. "Fat Tat" could be from a long lost Ramones out-take that Satriani found lying around, "Downside" funks things up like The Electric Boys on happy pills, while "Oblivion" dives off into prog-metal territory, but without the overwrought baggage that suggests and "King Of Damage" oozes bluesy class in the manner that Clutch would be proud of. Yes it sounds like a slightly odd mix, but believe me when I say that the songs work both individually and as a cracking album!

Put the preconceptions away and indulge yourself in an instrumental album that has as much, if not more power, emotion and clarity than most of the lyric based acts around. LoNero deserve to be huge, it's up to you to get them there!" - Steven Reid/Sea of Tranquility

“Unlike jazz, rock has been dominated by singers rather than instrumentalists, but that doesn't mean that rock's instrumentalist minority haven't made some exciting contributions over the years. And those rock instrumentalists have ranged from surf rockers (the Ventures, the Surfaris) to the pickers (acoustic folk-rock guitarists like John Fahey and Leo Kottke) to hard rock shredders of the Steve Vai/Joe Satriani variety. LoNero (a band led by electric guitarist Bill Lonero) falls into the shredder category, but what one hears on J.F.L. isn't an exact replica of Vai andSatriani as they sounded in the '80s. Rather, LoNero bring a post-'80s, post-Nirvana perspective to the shredder school of instrumental rock. Vai and Satriani are influences on this 2011 release, but so is alternative rock;LoNero combine that Vai/Satriani aesthetic with alternative rock, and punk is an influence on aggressive, hard-rocking tracks such as "Discard," "Fat Tat," "Oblivion," and "Little Bastard." Bill Lonero isn't the only Vai/Satriani-influenced guitarist who has shredded in a way that is also mindful of alternative rock and punk; Los Angeles-based guitarist Joe Bochar, aka Joboj, is another shredder who has post-‘80s, post-Nirvana influences. Joboj, like Bill Lonero, has successfully combined his passion for Vai and Satriani with a passion for alternative rock and punk. But it is safe to say that the market hasn't exactly been saturated with guitar-playing instrumentalists who are doing what Joboj and Bill Lonero are doing. "They call it guitarcore. What I call it is great instrumental guitar driven rock and roll. It is a genre that has few who can do it well but many who try. LoNero has got it right. Instead of showing how many notes can be crammed into a bar of music or delving into what can only be called extended wanking, they remembered that the most important aspect of music is melody.

Kicking off the album is a terrific piece called "Eden" which is just where the guitar lover will think he is after listening to this one. LoNero proves that it is possible to be heavy yet create a melodic song which will appeal to fans of many genres of music. The comparisons to the likes of Satriani are inevitable and these guys do follow some paths that Joe has set down but their trail never strays from making sure that the melody is paramount.

Another aspect of this band is that they will explore whatever field of music they desire. Sometimes you get a heavier feel as with "Little Bastard" or you might get what they call punkstumental on a song like "Good Luck" which is just what their labeling says. It has a punk attitude for the underbelly but still maintains the melody.

Another song that the band says is in the punstrumental category is "Fat Tat". To me this one sounds more like a Gary Hoey surf instrumental. Believe me when I say that this is not a bad thing at all. They manage to keep it heavy but to me I see a surfer riding that big wave when I hear this one. When music can take you to another place like that, it is doing it's job! Not everyone is going to experience the same journey but it is the ability to move you in one way or another that really counts. LoNero will do that and you will love where they take you.

I also like the dramatic side of their music. A song like "Oblivion" sounds to me like something that might come out of the Symphony X camp if Russell Allen didn't show up that day. Intense, powerful music that gets down into the soul.

The many different sides to this band makes this disc a dynamic listening experience. JFL just begs for you to slap it in the car player and head down to the nearest coastline and just cruise. I have been trying to figure out what the name of the album means and after hearing it I think it must be an abbreviation for Just F'ing Listen!!"

The hardest part of doing what I do is sifting through the endless stacks of CDs and MP3 downloads I receive from bands to try and find something worth writing about. I get endless albums of bands that sound like 3rd rate versions of already crappy bands making it downright painful to listen. Every now and then an album shines through the muck like a gem in the rough. When Lonero’s album “JFL” was brought to my attention, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Well, all I had to do was “JFL” just like the album title says. JUST FUCKING LISTEN!

“JFL” is an album of instrumental music that isn’t the kind of instrumental music I’m used to. It’s not wanky and its not so progressive sounding that it sounds like its from another planet . Lonero’s music is unpretentious and very easy to grasp. The structures of the songs are based around the melody where the guitar acts as the lead singer backed by an infectious, catchy groove. Lonero’s diverse influences are represented in full on this album ranging from progressive metal to classic punk. “Eden” and “Little Bastard” is a nod of sorts to the more melodic side of artists like Joe Satriani. The punk influence is present as “Fat Tat” sounds more like The Ramones and “Good Luck” channels Social Distortion more than anything. “Oblivion” explores the more progressive metal side of their influences and “New Song” is reminiscent of Eric Johnson’s more mellow side of instrumental music.

Lonero’s “JFL” was a breath of fresh air for me. Words can sometimes get in the way even for a guy like me who loves lyrical music. Lyrically heavy music can be a lot to take so sometimes I want to just be moved by some well played, well written music. “JFL” is a great collection of well played, well written songs that are easy on the ears and not sonically overwhelming. It’s a great album to listen to when you just want to hear some great music. Do yourself a favor. Pick up this album and do as the title says; “JFL”! http://thegreatsouthernbrainfart.com/?p=6749

"LONERO are the self proclaimed purveyors of “Guitar-Core”, and after hearing their new album JFL, I see no need to argue with them on the subject. I think it’s safe to say that shredding has taken on a whole new meaning when it comes to great guitar driven records. Sure, there are a lot of great heavy instrumental bands out there, but this is something different altogether. Each and every track on JFL is unique to itself, showcasing a different perspective on how a great band approaches the writing process. Some songs take on a JOE SATRIANI type wank off (in a good way) vibe, while others have a punk rock feel, or spaced out groove. You have no idea how the album will unfold until it has already hit you and you are nestled comfortably within the soft blanket of musical bliss. Comparisons could be made in some instances, but that seems like a cheap way of saying that LONERO has eclectic taste in music, and aren’t afraid to wear those influences on their sleeve. Those of you who find it hard to get into compositions without lyrics should have no problem getting comfortable with LONERO’s music. Although the words aren’t there, the instruments are well capable of doing the speaking in a language that we all can understand. Also, unlike most instrumental albums, JFL doesn’t lose you in fifteen minute compositions full of everything but the kitchen sink. Instead, each song has it’s chosen path and sticks to that formula for a good four or five minutes, then on to the next one, giving you the feel of a conventional rock record, even if this is anything but run of the mill. Recently Bill Lonero had the privilege to spend some time with the late great Randy Rhoads' sister Kathy and brother Kelle at legendary photographer Neil Zlozower's studio in Hollywood, CA. Randy Rhoads was a huge influence on Bill's playing and the chance to sit and talk with both was monumental. Afterwards Bill got to hold Randy Rhoads' first guitar. It's a 1908 Gibson Army Navy acoustic that used to belong to his grandfather. This guitar was what both Randy and Kathy started out on.

New Members Join LoNero

LoNero is proud to announce the addition of two new members. Drummer Marco Bicca from Brazil and Guitarist Gabe Ausiello formerly of Karate High School have joined LoNero in time for the new album. Marco's precision drumming and great attitude combined with Gabe's stellar rhythm playing and incredible showmanship add a whole new dimension to LoNero.
After 3 years with drummer Steve Spicer he has moved on to other things. He will still be contributing some great songs to the new album though so be sure to check those out. We wish him nothing but success in everything he does!!

Bill Lonero Joins SteelHeart

If you've ever seen the movie "RockStar" with Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston then you've heard the voice of Miljenko "Mili" Matijevic. Mili was the singing voice of Mark Wahlberg in the movie and he is also the singer of platinum-selling band "SteelHeart". We're proud to announce that LoNero guitarist Bill Lonero will be joining Steelheart. A chance meeting at legendary rock photographer, Neil Zlozower's house brought Bill and Mili together back in January.

Don't worry though, LoNero isn't going anywhere. LoNero is still very much alive and in fact we are working on our new album.

Bill's first show with SteelHeart will be on July 13th in Pryor, Oklahoma at the huge 5 day gathering that is Rocklahoma. Attendance is expected to reach or exceed 50,000 people this year. SteelHeart will be playing the final night right before Tesla and Queensryche on the main stage. So if you find yourself at Rocklahoma be sure to let Bill know you're there. He'd love to meet you!
